More about New York:

New York City is the most populous city of the United States. The city has a significant impact on trade, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education and entertainment across the globe. New York City consists of five boroughs: Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Each one has enough personality and sights to be a city of its own. While Manhattan and Staten Island are islands, Brooklyn and Queens are geographically part of Long Island, and Bronx is connected to the North American continent. The islands are connected by bridges, tunnels and ferries. With about 800 different languages spoken within its territory, New York City is the city with the greatest linguistic diversity in the world. Times Square is the illuminated region which concentrates the famous Broadway theaters, and is one of the busiest pedestrian crossings in the world. Where to stay in New York:

Most tourists prefer to stay in the famous Manhattan, since staying in the area you'll be close to all the sights. For those visiting for the first time, with little time and wanting to see the most famous landmarks, this may be the best option. Regardless of where you stay, you don’t have to stay put in a single area, the city offers easy rapid transit through public transport. The Brooklyn that has been once avoided because of crime, is today a high destination for accommodation, and it does not deserve the old fame. It has numerous restaurants, bars, and an active nightlife.

Getting around in New York:

Getting around town will always be fast when you choose public transport. Driving around New York City is not the best way to travel, as the city is very busy. The two main kinds of public transport are subway and bus.

Taxi in New York City, besides being cheap, sometimes is worthwhile than taking public transport. You have the option of paying for it using cash, credit card or debit card, and you can hail a taxi anywhere in the city, you just have to throw your arm up for a vacant one (the ones with the roof light on top of the cab lit).

Price: USD 2.50   Convert to   = 0.00
When you hail a taxi, the starting fare is $2.50. A surcharge ranging from $0,50 to $1.00 from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am, and $1.50 from Monday to Friday, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, may also apply.

The New York City subway system works great and covers almost the whole city. It is the fastest and most reliable way to travel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round.

Price: USD 2.75   Convert to   = 0.00
A single pass ride will cost you $3.00, but if you purchase a MetroCard, you will spend only 2.75$ per ride. There’s also the Unlimited Ride MetroCard, a pass for an unlimited number of rides for 7 days that costs $31.00 ($1.00 "new card fee" and $30.00 for the card).

Riding the bus in New York City is safe and easy. Suitable for those with spare time, riding the bus allows you to see the city.

Price: USD 2.25   Convert to   = 0.00
You can use the MetroCard, the same one you use for subway rides. If you're going to ride the bus several times, you can also purchase the 7 days Express Bus Plus MetroCard, that costs: $57.25.

PATH (Port Authority Trans Hudson) is the rail system connecting Manhattan to the neighboring state of New Jersey through underground tunnels under the Hudson River, hence the name Trans Hudson.

Price: USD 2.75   Convert to   = 0.00
If you have credit on your MetroCard you can use it to ride the PATH system. There is also an unlimited number of rides for 7 days PATH card and a 10 rides card, for those who are going to use the PATH system often.
