Getting around in Berlin:

The best way to get around Berlin is to use the public transportation that works in an excellent way. The transport system is fully integrated and the rate is unified, i.e., purchased tickets can be used both on the subway and on buses/trams. Berlin is divided into three zones: A, B and C and there are basically four types of public transport: U-Bahn, S-Bahn, electric tram and buses. Access the local journey planner (http://fahrinfo.bvg.de/Fahrinfo/bin/query.bin/en?) on the BVG page and complete the fields “from” and “to” to know what kind of transport is available for your route, as well as time and rate.
If your intention is to spend a few days in the city, we recommend buying the Berlin Welcome Card or Berlin CityTourCard, that in addition to direct and unlimited access to all types of public transport, offer discounts in the main sights. There are options valid for 48 hours, 72 hours, 4 days, 5 days and 6 days with rates from € 19.50.

The Berlin subway system is called U-Bahn, it has 10 lines covering the entire city center and nearby suburbs to downtown. Most U-Bahn lines run from 4:00 am until about 1:00 am and a few lines run 24 hours on weekends.

Please note: Tickets must be validated before use.

The S-Bahn is a surface train system that leads to the most remote locations, but it also has several lines and stations in the city center. During the week the S-Bahn starts up around 4:30 am and runs until about 1:30 am. From Friday to Saturday from Saturday to Sunday and on holiday’s eve the S-Bahn runs all night.

There are more than 100 bus lines and 22 electric tram lines circling the city. The bus and tram points (Haltestellen) are identified with a post/column with the symbol H. At points you will find tables with information about the lines that pass at that point and the times when the buses/trams will pass. Our tip is to do the tour with bus line 100 (Bus #100). This line is practically a tourist line as it passes near the main sights of Berlin on its way between the Zoologischer Garten station and the Alexanderplatz.
